Royal Gorge Route Train

August 12, 2014: Jeff, Leigh & I boarded the Royal Gorge Route train for a trip along the Arkansas River, through the Royal Gorge, and under the famous Royal Gorge Bridge, the highest suspension bridge in the US. The park and bridge were still closed when  we were there, due to reconstruction from the previous year’s fire. The bridge, itself, narrowly missed being burned in that fire. There was some damage, but it was minimal.

The year of the fire, they also had to shut down the train, but this year it was running again. Some damage from the fire was visible, notably the tramway which used to run from the rim of the gorge down to the Arkansas River.
