1/13/2015: Our first port-of-call in Chile, Punte Arenas, is located along the Strait of Magellan. The Strait of Magellan separates the mainland of South America from the Tierra del Fuego area and all the island areas we have been exploring for the past several days. We didn’t have a tour planned. We just got off the boat and wandered around town. But it was an interesting place.
There was a central park area with a statue of Ferdinand Magellan. Legend has it that if you kiss the toe of one of the figures on the memorial, you will return. We didn’t have many takers.
